Since 1999, Albania is involved in the Stabilisation and Association process which is the basic instrument of EU policy towards the Western Balkan countries, aiming at their full integration in the big European family.

 

This process offered Albania the essential instrument for EU membership, the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), following its endorsement on 12 June 2006, is under ratification by the EU Member States. The European Partnership document is the second important instrument, which provides the principles, short- and medium term priorities, and the conditions expected to be fulfilled by Albania in the Stabilisation and Association process.

 

In the light of meeting the obligations of the European strategic documents, the successful integration in the EU is achieved only if Albanian citizens understand in depth all the aspects of accession, so that they can play a leading role in this process.

 Despite the positive perception prevailing among the general public in support of this process, often this perception is abstract and hardly based on sufficient knowledge on European Integration.

 

The Ministry of Integration - with the view to inform and communicate with the public and target groups in particular - drafted and approved in October 2007 the “Action Plan for the Ministry of Integration to enhance the communication on the EU Integration process”. This Action Plan is of evolving and dynamic nature in order to adapt to the Stabilisation and Association process.
